Personnage féminin assis sur un tabouret à l’assise courte, typique aux Akan, la grande famille d’ethnies, originaire des Ashantis. Ce tabouret est destiné aux dignitaires. Ce qui frappe les yeux à première vue est la patine noire d’ébène. Elégamment stylée d’une coiffe communément appelée « corn roll » au Ghana, rouleau de maïs en français, pour témoigner de l’abondance. Une abondance accentuée par un cou annelé car chez les sculpteurs Akan, un cou en anneaux est signe de richesse. Cependant, cette représentation statuaire est un symbole de la maternité au pays Ashanti : une femme patiemment assise et qui allaite en douceur son enfant qu’elle tient dans ses bras. Les perle, pour les Akan, symbolise la beauté féminine. Elle est en fait indissociable de la femme. C’est donc ce qui explique la présence massive des perles qui couvrent le corps de cette femme qui sans doute, serait d’une lignée royale. Les Ashantis sont une population d’Afrique de l’Ouest vivant au Ghana. Ils font partie du grand groupe des Akans et se subdivisent eux-mêmes en de nombreux sous-groupes.
